Due to the challenges presented by the current COVID-19 pandemic, the 2020 Annual SHOT Symposium has been cancelled and will be deferred to 2021.
We have taken this difficult decision due to the unprecedented demands on the health service and we do not feel it is appropriate for us to run this annual event and divert the attention of transfusion professionals away from providing frontline healthcare support. Safety of our team, speakers and attendees is also paramount and this decision reflects the most prudent approach. All delegates who have registered and paid will be fully refunded.
The 2019 Annual SHOT Report will still be published and available on the SHOT website from 7th July 2020. We further aim to have a SHOT App available later in the year to aid accessibility of information, continue learning and improve transfusion safety. We will be in touch with further information regarding this app in the near future.
The MHRA provided guidance regarding the reporting of Serious Adverse Events and Serious Adverse Reactions during these challenging times, which is fully supported by the SHOT team. It is vital that learning is still gained from any errors reported to prevent further unnecessary harm occurring.
The SHOT team remain here to help with any queries and provide support to our transfusion community. We would like to recognise and thank all of our colleagues for their commitment during these difficult circumstances.
