On June 14, we join the global community in celebrating World Blood Donor Day—a heartfelt tribute to the millions of voluntary, unpaid donors whose generosity saves and sustains lives every single day. World Blood Donor Day 2026: One Drop of Humanity. Give Blood. Save Lives.
At the heart of this year’s theme is a powerful reminder: every drop counts. Each donation is more than a clinical act—it is an expression of humanity, compassion, and shared responsibility. From emergency care and surgeries to cancer treatment and lifelong transfusion support, donors form a vital lifeline that connects us all.
Our deepest thanks go to every donor. Your selfless contribution makes safe, life-saving care possible.
👏 We also extend our sincere appreciation to all those who support donation programmes—healthcare professionals, donor centre teams, researchers, and advocates—who work tirelessly to promote donation, ensure donor safety, and provide exceptional care throughout the donation journey.
From a haemovigilance perspective, SHOT remains committed to optimising safety for donors, patients, and staff. By learning from incidents, sharing insights, and taking a proactive, holistic approach, we aim to ensure no opportunity to improve safety and care is missed.
📢 As part of our ongoing work, we have recently released a new SHOT Mythbuster, helping to address key misconceptions and strengthen safe practice. You can explore this and all previous Mythbusters on the SHOT website at this link: Myth busters – Serious Hazards of Transfusion
🔍 If you’re not already familiar, we also encourage you to visit the Donor Haemovigilance Hub—developed collaboratively with donor clinical colleagues across the UK and JPAC SACCSD. This growing resource offers practical guidance and tools to enhance donor care and safety:

Together, by valuing donors, strengthening systems, and learning continuously, we can help ensure that safe blood is available for everyone, everywhere, whenever it is needed.
